FEAR THE REAPER (Reviews)

Trapped Under Ice's new piece, "Secrets of the World" is maybe going to be the best hardcore full length this year, and certainly the most impressive debut full length for the still young band from Baltimore. If you don't know who this band is yet, you really must live under a rock, but for the rest of us, this blows away their other releases to date. The album takes their NYHC style and expands it to new heights. The recording quality and song writing is amazing and I was blown away by some of the breakdowns and change-ups on the new material. Packaging and layout awesome as well. TUI is definitely progressing and impressing. Guest vocals from Baltimore's hardest Stout? Sick. One of my favorite new bands right now. Baltmore City Hardcore representing. Get this!


Born From Pain "Warfare" EP. More punishment from these kings of Dutch hardcore. I have always been into these guys since the first time I heard them. "Sands of Time" and "War" are two great brutal hardcore discs you should definitely check out if you are new to these guys. On this EP, Reaper brings us five tracks cut from the new (2008) Metal Blade album "Survival". Supposedly there are plans for the rest of the album to be relaeased on a 2nd EP? Having not heard "Survival" yet, I admit I was a little hesitant to hear this EP having heard there was a new vocalist this time around, just because I really enjoyed the original lineup. Pleased to say that the new vocals do not disappoint and lend a new twist to an already great HC unit. The new songs are devastating, this band continues unleashing their apocalyptic music lyrically similiar to All Out War, musically akin to Hatebreed. Load your guns, get out your camo, and prepare for war, its going down and BFP is ready. This is hardcore.


Next up... LA's own illest heavyweights, TERROR! One of my favorite bands both live and recorded, TERROR is continually inspirational and energetic. This EP, called "The Blood Tracks Demos - The Rise Of The Poisoned Youth" is three out takes from the recording of "The Damned, The Shamed" LP, the songs being three of the best on that release, Rise of the Poisoned Youth, Never Alone, and Betrayer. Additionally there is a fourth track, Iron Mind, which is so good its hard to see how it didn't end up the full length. The raw versions and recording presented on this release are great and give this EP a true demo style raw feel, which is nice to hear from a band who has always has had top notch (some would say too clean) recordings on all their releases, being on Trustkill and all. I love this band and this release is dope, and vinyl only, with a great Suicidal Tendencies rip off cover.


Yeah, I saved the best for last. CT's Death Threat returns with "Lost At Sea", a straight ass kicker, and my favorite DT material since "Peace and Security". 3 new originals, and a phenomenal cover of one the best classic NYHC songs ever - Outburt's "The Hardway". The title track on this EP is my personal fave, so tight. The 7" comes with a digital download card also. I am going to be listening to this over and over for a while... The new songs are hard, fast, tight and just pure Death Threat. Real. "Started drowning but I caught my breath, brought back to life by family and my friends" Fuck yeah.

With the success of Naysayer, and the Mercy for None compilation (the "Only The Strong" of the 2000's?), and still forthcoming in 09 - a Forfeit debut full length, a Slugfest discography and a new Maximum Penalty to drop this year, can we doubt this is the best hardcore label right now? Reaper brings the mosh, SUPPORT REAPER RECORDS!
